To provide quality patient care to patients undergoing surgical intervention.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
* Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing.
* Current State License as a Registered Nurse.
* Current certification in BLS for Healthcare Professionals.
* Evidence of continuing education.
* Good command of the English language, both verbal and written.
* Ability to work well with providers, employees, patients, and others.
* Current ACLS certification, preferred.
*WORKING CONDITIONS:*
* Requires extensive mobility (walking and standing).
* Periodic pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients and/or equipment.
* May have exposure to patients with communicable diseases.
*RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Maintenance of Safety
* Carries out all verification procedures so that the correct patient receives the correct procedure at the correct surgical site by the correct provider, and that all supplies, medications, equipment and implants are available on site.
* Assures that the sponge, sharps, and instrument counts are correct.
* Positions the patient keeping in consideration:
* Functional alignment.
* Exposure of surgical site.
* Maintenance and support of position throughout procedure.
* Applies grounding device to patient properly and evaluates/documents integrity of patient’s skin on removal.
* Provides physical support.
* Completes all procedures for correct patient, correct site, correct provider, and checks that all supplies, instruments, implants, and medications are on site before start of procedure.
* Makes ongoing observations for good hand hygiene and aseptic technique to support IC goals.
*Physiological Monitoring*
* Calculates effects on patient of excessive fluid loss.
* Distinguishes normal from abnormal cardiopulmonary data.
* Reports changes in patient’s pulse, respiration's, temperature, and blood pressure.
*Psychological Monitoring (prior to induction and if patient is conscious)*
* Provides emotional support to patient.
* Stands near/touches patient during procedures/induction.
* Continues to assess patient’s emotional status.
* Communicates patient’s emotional status to other appropriate members of the health care team.
*Nursing Management*
* Provides physical safety for the patient.
* Maintains aseptic, controlled environment.
* Effectively manages time and tasks throughout the shift.
* Effectively manages human resources requirements.
* Effectively manages relationships with other staff and providers.
